CULTURE NEWS

  • Chester County Library will host its 14th Annual Holiday Craft Show on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 450 Exton Square Parkway in Exton where over 50 local vendors plus families can browse handmade gifts in a free, festive setting.  VISTA Today
  • Longwood Christmas in Kennett Square lights up the holiday season with jewels, gems and over 25,000 plants including 4,300 poinsettias, a 24-foot Fraser fir, and more than half a million lights; the event runs through Jan. 11.  6abc Philadelphia

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act passed unanimously in the Senate and may allow West Chester schools to offer whole and 2% milk in cafeterias. Congressman Thompson said the change will give students healthier dairy options and improved nutrition.  WFMZ-TV
  • DCCC Culinary Arts students met with Villanova University leaders last month to learn about culinary job opportunities and hands-on training through the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Studies Program (supported by local industry partners). The program will open a state-of-the-art teaching kitchen at its Southeast Center in Drexel Hill in January.  VISTA Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pennsylvania is spending $3 million on free period products for public schools, charter schools, and technical centers as part of Governor Shapiro’s 2025-26 budget—schools will receive $1.75 per student until June to ensure basic hygiene for students.  WFMZ-TV
  • PennDOT will close alternate lanes on Route 401 from 6:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8 to 6:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12 — crews work on overhead bridge repairs between Newcomen Road and 7 Oaks Road so motorists should expect delays.  MyChesCo
  • Aqua Pennsylvania announced its $380 million plan to upgrade pipes and treatment plants so water stays flowing properly through this winter in West Chester. The upgrade will include modernizing infrastructure and using smart sensors (to detect issues early) so residents can expect safe service during cold weather.  VISTA Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • Chester County Health Department reports food safety violations at Bethany Christian School in Oxford, a Phoenixville brewery, a Giant Food on Eagleview Blvd and a Wawa on South Hanover Street, leading officials to discard unsafe foods & suspend equipment. They urge residents to report unsafe conditions.  MyChesCo
  • Mondelez Global LLC issued a voluntary recall for Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches in eight states, including Pennsylvania, due to an undeclared peanut allergen that may cause severe reactions + consumers with peanut allergies should discard the product and call the hotline if needed.  FOX 29

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Chester County is shaping four projects for 2026. A 200-room hotel in West Goshen will begin construction in spring, Kennett Square’s Willowdale event space is set to open in fall, Downingtown Station will relocate east after demolition begins, and plans at Exton Square Mall could soon face legal challenges.  VISTA Today
  • Toll Brothers bought a 100-acre site in Exton on Dec. 5 — planning its largest age-restricted community with 317 townhomes and single-family units for adults 55 and over at 301-305 Church Farm Lane; the project earned township approval last year and will move forward soon.  VISTA Today
