  • VISTA Today has opened nominations for the seventh annual VISTA NextGen Superstars initiative that will honor Chester County’s young leaders under 40 for their innovation and community impact. Organizations can submit names until Jan. 23, with honorees revealed from Feb. 10 and the awards celebration on April 30 at the Penn State Great Valley Conference Center — a portion of the proceeds will benefit Chester County OIC.  VISTA Today

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Andiario in West Chester offers a seasonal dining experience with a menu that changes each week as Chef Anthony Andiario uses fresh local ingredients—this restaurant has earned national praise including a James Beard Award semifinalist nomination. Diners can book an $85 pre-set dinner, and reservations for each month open on the 20th of the prior month.  VISTA Today
  • Retired chemist Richard Buoni runs Pennsylvania Distilling Co. in Malvern where he creates eight small-batch craft spirits from local PA-grown ingredients. He leads tours and offers weekend tastings—each spirit is named to honor family or local heritage.  VISTA Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After months of stalemate, Pennsylvania released its state budget on November 24 that brings over $900 million in education funding for local schools—West Chester schools saw a 1.9% rise in basic education funding with a 1.0% increase in special education and a 12.5% boost in Ready to Learn block grants. The budget also allocated $565 million for school adequacy along with $105 million for basic education, $40 million for special education and $125 million for infrastructure projects.  VISTA Today
  • Young Rembrandts of Chester County — awarded the Main Line Parent 2025 LOVE Award for Best Art Classes — offers after school drawing lessons that build confidence and artistic skills for junior artists ages three to five and elementary students through a step-by-step curriculum.  VISTA Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pennsylvania officials warned residents today that scammers are using the busy holiday season to steal money and personal details. The Insurance Department and the Department of Banking and Securities advised consumers to verify unsolicited offers—reject cold calls and rushed deals to protect their information.  MyChesCo
  • The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is now accepting applications for the Educational Gratuity Program—this program offers up to $4,000 to help children of disabled or fallen veterans pay for college, trade, or apprenticeship costs. Eligible Pennsylvania residents aged 16 to 23 who show financial need should apply for the upcoming term.  MyChesCo
  • Pennsylvania announced over $10 million in new funding for 52 Area Agencies on Aging to improve in-home care and community services for seniors—state officials also launched a new Elder Exploitation Section to strengthen investigations of abuse. The measures were signed into law recently to help older adults remain safe and independent across all counties.  MyChesCo

HEALTH NEWS

  • The YMCA of Greater Brandywine earned national re-certification as a Certified Medical Fitness Facility from the Medical Fitness Association—making it the only YMCA in the nation and the only organization in Pennsylvania with this honor. The re-certification shows its commitment to safe, evidence-based health programs for Chester County residents.  VISTA Today
