COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Safe Harbor of Chester County will host community events from November 15 to November 22 to raise awareness about hunger and homelessness. The schedule includes a film screening, community fair, mural tribute, chalk walk, meditation class and an improv benefit performance, and the organization will join the Subaru Share the Love campaign to offer extra ways for local residents to help.  VISTA Today
  • Malvern resident Natanya Sortland, who is legally blind, rappelled from the 30th floor of a Center City building on November 5 to aid local students with outdoor nature trips—she has completed similar feats before with West Chester’s Sunrise Rotary Club to support Philadelphia Outward Bound School. This effort highlights her ongoing commitment to community-based outdoor education.  VISTA Today
  • Kennett Square Police, partnering with the Maternal and Child Health Consortium, launched a holiday donation drive to support local children and families this winter. Donations—new, unwrapped toys for ages newborn to 16 and new or gently used winter coats, gloves, scarves, socks and hats—can be dropped off at 600 S. Broad Street Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. until December 5.  MyChesCo

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historian Garry Adelman reviewed ten Revolutionary War battles fought near Philadelphia that helped shape America’s fight for independence—he explained how skirmishes in Chester and Montgomery counties were key to the nation’s early struggle. His talk showed that local towns and rural roads played a real role in forming our country.  VISTA Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chester County Futures held its annual College Expo at Ursinus College on October 17—connecting 77 high school students from Coatesville, Kennett, Oxford, and Phoenixville with 50 colleges and trade schools to explore post-secondary options. Students joined guided campus tours and lunch to learn about what each school offers.  VISTA Today
  • Citadel Credit Union is taking nominations for its 25th Heart of Learning Awards, honoring teachers in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Lancaster and Philadelphia counties — a program that has given over half a million dollars in classroom grants. Winners will receive a glass heart award and share more than $100,000 in prizes, with nominations closing Jan. 15 and winners named in the spring.  VISTA Today
  • Two Downingtown high schoolers launched the nonprofit WiseBridge Education—providing free study guides and learning materials to students around the world. They shared over 12,000 materials in six countries and plan to expand with new chapters in Chicago and New York.  VISTA Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT will start a $6.8 million sinkhole repair project on the U.S. 30 Exton Bypass on November 10 through November 21 with overnight lane closures from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on weeknights — drivers should allow extra travel time.  MyChesCo

HEALTH NEWS

  • Family Service of Chester County received a $25,000 grant from the Foxwynd Foundation to establish a new trauma-informed counseling center in Coatesville — the center will offer in-person and telehealth services to expand local mental health support.  VISTA Today
