Good morning, West Chester. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 1st of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A federal shutdown is expected to freeze SNAP payments starting today — affecting millions including over 29,000 SNAP users in Chester County — and may cause food insecurity. Food banks and local providers — such as community churches offering hot meals — are coordinating food pickups, volunteer efforts and donations to help those in need.  VISTA Today

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Former VISTA leader Lauren Oblak launched veri cheri from the Chaddsford Winery to help girls 8–14 build confidence with interactive workshops and self-care kits. The venture uses products like lip gloss and nail stickers—tools that spark conversation about inner beauty—and it will host pop-up events for local girls soon.  VISTA Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal regulators gave SEPTA extra time to inspect and fix its old Silverliner IV rail cars, with inspections now due by Nov 14 and new heat-sensing tools to be installed by Dec 5—this safety plan comes after several train fires caused service delays. SEPTA General Manager Scott Sauer said many trains will still be out of service, so riders should expect more delays.  FOX 29
