She is updating her program to help kids regain lost reading skills and recently held a Laughs for Literacy fundraiser at People's Light — a sign of her ongoing commitment to local service. - ➤ State Senator Carolyn Comitta invites local parents, grandparents, and expectant families to a free Community Baby Shower on Friday, October 24, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Oxford Presbyterian Church—over 20 local organizations will offer resources, children’s activities, raffles, and free baby items. - ➤ Carlino’s Market from West Chester has expanded its signature sauces and pasta into Wegmans, Central Market and Giant Food. The family-owned firm expects production and sales to triple over the next year and will extend its tomato sauce line to additional locations in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and New York over the next three months—keeping its focus as a specialty, premium brand. - ➤ SEPTA must inspect its 225 Silverliner IV rail cars by Oct. 31 after two rail cars caught fire and raised safety concerns at a City Council meeting—its general manager warned a lack of funds might cause the agency to miss the deadline.
