  • Former Philadelphia Eagles star Brandon Graham supported local children by teaming up with Philly Fades for the Buzz It Forward campaign in Phoenixville, which provided free haircuts and donations to Good Samaritan Services. He said the event boosted the children's confidence and may expand statewide under Buzz It Forward assistant director Mike Webb Jr.—a sign of growing community support.  VISTA Today

  • West Chester resident Laurie Ryan will become president of the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce on Nov. 3—she previously led the Exton Chamber and held roles at Kellogg’s and Buca di Beppo.  VISTA Today
  • Martha Stewart traveled to Chester County on October 7 to debut her new fall/winter apparel collection during live QVC broadcasts from West Chester, including a special segment from Longwood Gardens—she showcased a quilted puffer vest available in several colors.  VISTA Today

CULTURE NEWS

  • Michael Bertrando from Kennett Square’s Sam’s Sub Shop landed the role of Mark Ruffalo’s body double in HBO's crime drama Task and received a speaking credit as FBI Officer No. 1—he had worked in theater and commercials and managed his family shop while bonding over shared Italian roots with Ruffalo. His unexpected role brought him close to the actor and opened new opportunities in his acting career.  VISTA Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Girard School District is facing a 99-day delay in the state budget that has left its pool closed and forced the board to consider borrowing money for payroll. Board President Richard Brown has urged local lawmakers via a letter to act soon to restore full funding.  WFMZ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SEPTA is preparing for a possible strike because its contract with TWU Local 234 will expire on November 7th—department heads are already assigning roles to manage service and secure transit facilities if workers walk out. A spokesperson confirmed that non-union staff would not replace union workers in the event of a strike.  FOX 29
  • Officials urge West Chester voters to check registration and review sample ballots because Election Day is November 4th and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pennsylvania officials add that mail-in ballots are available before Election Day — the last day to register is October 20th and mail ballots must be returned by 8 p.m. on Election Day.  WFMZ-TV
  • On Tuesday, SEPTA removed some Silverliner IV rail cars—prompted by a federal order due to fire risk—which caused delays and crowded trains for many riders. SEPTA said it will continue safety inspections and warned that more service disruptions may occur in the coming days.  FOX 29
