  • Habitat for Humanity of Chester County announced a new three-year, $225K partnership with the Foxwynd Foundation to launch Habitat Tower — a mixed-income condominium community in downtown Phoenixville that will support families and essential workers.   • During October, customers at Sovana Bistro at 696 Unionville Road in Kennett Square and The Pear at 275 Brintons Bridge Road in West Chester can dine in or takeout on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to support The Arc of Chester County—15% of the bill is donated and diners must inform their server before scanning the QR code on their receipt—to count toward the fundraiser.  VISTA Today

  • North America's largest Chrysanthemum Festival will return to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square from Oct. 24 to Nov. 16 to display over 200 mum cultivars and elaborate installations — the event will also feature the Thousand Bloom Chrysanthemum grown with a historic technique.  VISTA Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Pennsylvania officials said nearly 60 invasive aquatic animal species threaten lakes, rivers and streams by disrupting habitats and damaging infrastructure—zebra mussels and snakeheads being key examples. The Department of Agriculture classified these species as established, emerging and potential invaders and urged boaters and anglers to clean gear to prevent their spread.  FOX 29

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On October 1, the NTSB recommended that SEPTA remove its Silverliner IV railcars from service after five fires over the past eight months raised fire risk concerns—nearly 60% of SEPTA's regional fleet is affected. SEPTA has 30 days to respond while two top maintenance officials were placed on leave.  FOX 29
