- ➤ Residents can support local artisans at three upcoming fall craft fairs—Clover Market in Kennett Square on Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with over ninety vendors, Autumn Fine Craft Fair in West Chester on Nov. 1 and 2 featuring regional art, and the Sip—Shop Craft Fair in Paoli on Nov. 7 at the fire station offering about thirty-five vendors; all events offer free admission and a chance to purchase unique handmade items. - ➤ A study by Niche found that Conestoga and Downingtown West high schools ranked among the state's best 25 for student athletes—local programs at these schools offer 18 and 25 sports, respectively. VISTA Today
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ In Pennsylvania, new laws go into effect this month—SNAP benefits now require work requirements starting September 1 while tougher fines for illegal street racing begin September 16. A proposed bill effective September 11 will extend Philadelphia's business curfew to include settings in Fairhill and Germantown. FOX 29
- ➤ Since the state’s fiscal year ended on July 1, Philadelphia’s collar counties have not received tens of millions in funds for social services—like mental health care, children’s programs, and meals for seniors—while the General Assembly works to pass a budget, and county leaders warn that further delays may force cuts in these programs. - ➤ Local health officials said Tuesday that a Delaware County resident tested positive for West Nile virus, making it the sixth case in the Philadelphia region with one case in Chester County.
