EDUCATION NEWS

  • Immaculata University announced a new partnership with the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders to offer discounted tuition for select nursing programs (effective Aug. 1). Eligible PONL members will receive a 20 percent discount on graduate tuition or pay $405 for the RN to B.S.N. program with waived application fees.  VISTA Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT announced safety upgrades along Business U.S. 322 in West Chester and West Goshen Township, with weekday lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting today until June 20 — drivers should expect delays. Marino Corporation is installing new traffic signals, LED lights, and restoring the roadway — work that is subject to weather and is slated to finish by winter.  MyChesCo
  • The Pennsylvania Turnpike will remove the Downingtown tollbooth in 2026 as it shifts to open-road tolling that scans drivers' licenses — easing traffic and reducing lane changes. Officials say the new system will lower carbon emissions by an extra 7 percent and save $25 million in maintenance costs — continuing efforts that already cut emissions by 45 percent.  VISTA Today
  • On June 9, the Pennsylvania House passed House Bill 1429 to boost SNAP benefit security—transitioning to chip-enabled EBT cards to counter fraud. Sponsored by state Reps. Dan Williams and Doyle Heffley, the bill requires the Department of Human Services to produce a report on costs and prevention strategies before it goes to the Senate.  MyChesCo
  • State leaders, residents and LeadingAge PA met Tuesday at the Main Capitol Rotunda to urge lawmakers to provide $139 million for nursing homes and between $20 and $22 million for the LIFE program—this call comes as care providers face staffing shortages that force them to limit services or close units.  MyChesCo
