CULTURE NEWS

  • West Chester native Matthew McGrory was once recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest actor at 7 feet 6 inches + he held records for the biggest foot and the longest toe and appeared in films like Big Fish.  VISTA Today
  • Students from across Chester County will perform Shakespeare plays on Wednesday, May 20 at Uptown Knauer Performing Arts Center during the festival — which includes workshops and a new high school competition that encourages creative interpretations.  MyChesCo

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over 1,300 Delaware County Community College students earned degrees and certificates at West Chester University’s Hollinger Field House recently. Graduates ranged in age from 17 to 70 and college leaders, including President Dr. Marta Yera Cronin, recognized the Class of 2026 for their diverse achievements.  VISTA Today
  • Chester County school districts improved reading + math scores after pandemic delays, with gains seen at Coatesville Area, Kennett Consolidated, Downingtown Area and William Penn School Districts. Officials credited teachers and staff for their efforts.  VISTA Today
  • Penn State Brandywine instructor Lusine Mueller earned the First-Degree Laureate Award (from the All-Russian Society of Scientific Researchers) for her article on Michael Arlen’s 1924 novel, 'The Green Hat.'   • CCRES provides dedicated paraprofessionals to help students transition to school and build confidence. The nonprofit supports local families by offering stability and guidance (especially for those facing health or academic challenges) across Chester County.  VISTA Today
  • Girls Exploring Tomorrow's Technology held an alumni celebration at Technical College High School’s Brandywine Campus to launch its GETT Community Impact Network. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers on eastbound U.S. 422 in North Coventry Township will face lane closures from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 19 as PennDOT installs electrical cable during an $83.6 million expressway reconstruction project.  MyChesCo
  • PennDOT will close eastbound lanes on U.S. 30 from Sunday, May 17 through Thursday, May 21 for pavement preservation plus bridge repairs. Overnight closures affect the segment between the Bailey Road Overpass and Business U.S. 30, and a daytime lane closure on Monday will occur between Wagontown Road and Route 82.  MyChesCo
  • Uwchlan Township will decommission its aging Eagleview Wastewater Treatment Plant next month to divert wastewater to Downingtown Area Regional Authority, cutting treatment costs from $5.88 to less than $1 per gallon without raising taxpayer rates. HEALTH NEWS

  • Chester County health inspectors cited food safety violations at several local eateries on Thursday — from malfunctioning dishwashers to improper food cooling — and directed staff in Spring City, Oxford, Pottstown, Phoenixville, Kennett Square, and West Chester to follow alternative sanitization practices until repairs are made.  MyChesCo
