  • Accupac is consolidating its operations in Pennsylvania as it closes its Lakewood, New Jersey plant this year, with layoffs beginning in August and some employees transferring to its Harleysville, Souderton and Mainland facilities. The shift will bring more production closer to its Montgomery County hub.  VISTA Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chester County education leaders will meet on May 21 at West Chester University (7:30-9:30 a.m.) for the State of Education Breakfast to discuss how experiential learning can better prepare students for the workforce.  VISTA Today
  • CCRES remains a vital resource for school districts by providing educational & behavioral support with a dedicated team from across Southeastern Pennsylvania. The nonprofit builds long-term partnerships through staffing and community grants that help schools, families, and educators succeed.  VISTA Today
  • Widener University joined Scholars Network in January to help healthcare students lower debt and secure job placements in Chester (with support from systems like Temple Health and Penn Medicine). The program offers clear career paths in fields such as nursing and sonography, and interest has grown since the partnership began.  VISTA Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • 16 American passengers from a cruise ship outbreak of the Andes strain Hantavirus are quarantined in Nebraska (one in biocontainment), and St. Luke’s doctor Jeffrey Jahre said risk in West Chester stays low since the virus needs close, prolonged contact and proper cleaning with a bleach solution is advised.  WFMZ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coatesville sophomore Colton Hiller, ranked No. 3 nationally for the class of 2028, averaged 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists this season and plans to return for junior year despite many prep school offers while spending his summer with CAA visits and playing for the PSA Cardinals.  VISTA Today
  • Riley Davis, daughter of former MLB catcher Ben Davis, was named the nation’s top lacrosse player for the class of 2027 and will join Penn State next fall. The junior trains with her sister in West Chester as she upholds her family’s sports legacy.  VISTA Today
