  • Phoenixville-based Groundhog Hickory Golf restores vintage hickory clubs using a process that removes rust and adds new leather; owner Adam Gresek accepts custom orders for themed clubs like Penn State or Philadelphia Eagles. CULTURE NEWS

  • Hopewell remains a living reminder of its working past as its mill buildings and worker homes stand by Tweed Creek and mark the village's history. A local resident noted that work slowed decades ago, yet the town preserves its traditional layout and quiet charm.  MyChesCo

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Chester University will hold commencement ceremonies from Wednesday, May 6 through Sunday, May 10 at its main campus venues (Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall at Philips Memorial Building and Hollinger Field House) and at its Philadelphia site to honor 3,568 spring graduates.  MyChesCo
  • Downingtown Area School District will host Holocaust survivor Dr. Jack Wetter on Monday, May 11 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom — the free virtual event is part of Jewish American and AAPI Heritage Month activities to boost understanding and dialogue.  MyChesCo
  • Penn State Brandywine marked the five-year anniversary of its Chancellor's Commission on Sustainability by showcasing campus initiatives such as fair trade offerings, recycling efforts, clean energy projects and planned tree planting near the creek. Launched in 2020 under Regional Chancellor Marilyn J. Wells, the commission continues to build a greener campus.  VISTA Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PECO is urging qualifying households to apply for LIHEAP, a federal program offering up to $1,000 off energy bills (application deadline: Friday, May 8) to help ease rising costs.  VISTA Today
  • Governor Josh Shapiro ordered flags at state buildings to be lowered from sunrise until sunset today to honor firefighters who died on duty during National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, and he is expected to attend the dedication of a Pittsburgh memorial — officials urge residents to join the tribute.  FOX 29

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Chester County Health Department inspected three local food facilities on May 1 and found sanitation issues at Bella Rosa, Chesterbrook Academy Elementary School, and The Original Hot Bagels (including expired sanitizer, leaking faucets and missing fire suppression). The academy must meet a compliance deadline of Aug. 1.  MyChesCo
  • Pennsylvania invested $12.3 million since 2023 in maternal and child health programs that boost screenings and access to care for mothers and infants. The new Healthy Moms, Vibrant Futures plan (a statewide initiative) will expand these services with extra funding in the upcoming 2026-27 budget.  MyChesCo
