  • The Missionary Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus hosted their 17th annual Nun Run 5-K and 1-Mile Fun Walk in the Muhlenberg area to support their missions and foster community spirit. Participants enjoyed a day of exercise and fellowship while raising funds for the sisters' work.  WFMZ-TV
  • Pughtown remains a quiet and enduring community along Route 100 where modest homes and preserved farmland showcase its layered history. Residents say that despite growth in nearby towns, this rural area continues to change slowly, keeping a pace set since John Pugh mapped it in 1732.  MyChesCo

CULTURE NEWS

  • The historical society will host an open house at Roseberry House to celebrate America's 250th birthday. The event will feature historical exhibits + guided tours for locals to enjoy the legacy.  WFMZ-TV
  • Longwood Gardens will host its Summer Performance Series from May 8 to September 27, featuring music, dance, illuminated fountains and fireworks at 1001 Longwood Road in Kennett Square. Tickets go on sale April 24 with early access for members on April 22.  MyChesCo
  • Baldwin’s Book Barn, housed in an 1822 dairy barn outside West Chester, offers over 300,000 rare and vintage books, manuscripts, maps, prints, and estate antiques across five floors (it also features friendly ghost legends).  VISTA Today
  • St. Peter’s Village (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) preserves its 19th-century charm along French Creek with around 40 historic buildings, including a bakery with a century-old sourdough starter. Local shops offer glassblowing classes and retro arcade games for visitors to enjoy.  VISTA Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT crews will repair potholes on several state highways including West Chester Pike next week. Drivers should expect daytime lane closures and slow-moving traffic on affected roads (April 20–24).  MyChesCo
  • Yellow Springs Road remains closed during daytime work hours as PennDOT replaces pipes until Wednesday, April 29, causing traffic to reroute onto Route 113 (Kimberton Road), Route 401, and Lower Pine Creek Road. Drivers should expect delays and plan extra travel time.  MyChesCo
  • PennDOT will narrow lanes on U.S. 422 in Lower Pottsgrove and North Coventry from Monday, April 20 to Friday, April 24; westbound lanes are reduced to one (6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.) and eastbound lanes restricted (9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.). Expect congestion with no detour.  MyChesCo

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents and staff at Freedom Village at Brandywine surpassed their 500,000-step goal by logging more than 1.3 million steps during this year’s Pump It for Parkinson’s event — the day featured group walks, workouts, and dancing to raise awareness and promote fitness for Parkinson’s.  MyChesCo
  • The Chester County Health Department found food safety problems during April 17 inspections at Paoli’s ACME Markets #192 and Kennett Square’s Philly Pretzel Factory. Staff were told to fix issues like wrong food temperatures and faulty equipment, while several local establishments passed inspection.  MyChesCo
