CRIME NEWS

  • The Kennett Square Police Department announced that 20-year-old local man Ryan McGowan was arrested on April 9 for alleged child exploitation crimes on the 900 block of Cedarwood Avenue in West Chester—he faces multiple charges including unlawful contact with a minor and cyber harassment of a child—and the investigation remains active.  MyChesCo

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Six Chester County towns earned spots on the list of the most educated ZIP codes in Greater Philadelphia based on U.S. Census data from more than 12,000 areas. Devon ranked fourth with 82.58 percent of residents holding a bachelor’s degree or higher (the list also includes Chester Springs, Wayne, Berwyn, Paoli, and Malvern).  VISTA Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SEPTA announced it will cut 45% of its services starting Aug. 24 if it does not get the extra state funding — the changes will remove 32 bus routes, five rail lines and raise fares on Sept. 1, which could reduce weekday trips by 350,000.  WFMZ-TV
  • State Rep. Chris Pielli of Chester introduced House Bill 96 to let seniors and people with disabilities name someone to get alerts about unpaid property taxes—helping prevent home loss—after the bill was unanimously approved by the House Commerce Committee on Tuesday, April 8. The measure will move to the full House for a vote.  MyChesCo
  • SEPTA unveiled its fiscal year 2026 budget proposal that will cut service by 45% if new funding is not secured, eliminating 56 bus routes and five rail lines + enforcing a 9 p.m. rail curfew starting in August. The budget will also raise fares by 21.5% in September and impose a hiring freeze on all employees, potentially reducing weekday trips by 350,000.  FOX 29
  • On April 10, three state legislators from Chester County introduced a bill that would require the state Department of Health (DOH) to review and hold public hearings on any hospital acquisition. The measure was proposed after the closures of Jennersville and Brandywine hospitals reduced local access to care.  VISTA Today
