  • The Bookhouse Hotel at Faunbrook in West Chester will hold its official grand opening on April 13 with a party and its first wedding event, as owner Stephanie Olenik transforms the historic building into a hotel with themed literary rooms — a project enriched by local book donations.  Chester County Press
  • Stephen R. McDonnell has been chosen to lead Gawthrop Greenwood’s management committee in West Chester; he has worked in law for many years (he has tried over 50 cases) and will help set the firm’s future strategy.  Chester County Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Four CEOs from Chester County companies met on March 14 at West Chester University to discuss local economic challenges and the need for strong company culture and worker training. They explained that steady planning and clear strategies—such as balanced portfolios and improved training—could help the region face tough times ahead.  Chester County Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Laurie Bernotsky will be inaugurated as West Chester University’s 16th president and second woman president in a formal investiture ceremony on Friday, March 28 at 11 a.m. in Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall — her inaugural address will outline a vision for the university’s future — and the ceremony will launch a weeklong series of celebratory events.  Chester County Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nearly 200 veterans, officials + supporters gathered at the Old Courthouse on March 14 to protest proposed VA cuts that would eliminate 83,000 jobs and reduce services like health care, housing and pensions. Speakers warned that the cuts could leave many veterans without essential support + elected representatives vowed to take further steps to protect those services.  Chester County Press
  • Advocates and local officials testified at Kennett Library on March 12 during a hearing led by State Rep. Christina Sappey on House Bill 820 to propose the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit—this measure would give nearly 1 million eligible families up to 30 percent of their federal Earned Income Tax Credit to help cover daily expenses. Supporters said the tax credit would boost financial stability and strengthen the local economy.  Chester County Press
  • At a March 17 board meeting, New Garden Township Manager Christopher Himes explained a new zoning map plan to about 50 residents—this plan will guide housing and business growth as work continues through the summer with a final plan expected by late fall.  Chester County Press
