  • Aqua Pennsylvania urges its customers to protect home pipes before Winter Storm Fern hits this weekend by insulating pipes and marking water valves (these steps help prevent costly repairs).  VISTA Today
  • West Chester residents can celebrate Valentine's Day with local events, including cookie decorating at Limitless Creations on Friday, Feb. 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Toy Bingo at Kildare's Irish Pub on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. County events feature floral design, glass blowing, and beer pairings (see listings).  VISTA Today

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Three Chester County family-owned companies rank among the 56 largest in Greater Philadelphia, with West Chester’s A. Duie Pyle ranking sixth with $842 million in revenue and 1,144 employees. The Judge Group and Brock & Company follow in seventh and 22nd place, according to the report.  VISTA Today
  • Grocery options in Chester County are expanding — locally owned Kimberton Whole Foods will open a 14,000 sqft store in Eagleview Town Center, West Chester Cooperative will launch at 204 W. Market St., and Kennett Community Grocer will debut in Kennett Square, with national chains targeting Phoenixville.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Chester University received the 2026 Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, a national designation recognizing its community partnerships and civic engagement. The award follows more than a year of campus-wide effort that boosted community engaged learning opportunities.  VISTA Today
  • Undergraduate Danielle Guth, now a doctoral student at West Chester University, led a research study on trauma and resiliency among d/Deaf children at Penn State Brandywine and surveyed 81 participants — findings published in the Journal of Child and Adolescent Trauma support her focus on advocacy.  VISTA Today
  • Mid Penn Bank is accepting applications for its annual Anna Woodside Scholarship, which will award four $1,000 grants to high school seniors planning full-time college enrollment this fall. Applicants must reside in the bank's service area and complete submissions by March 31.  MyChesCo
  • Delaware County Community College will use a $16,800 grant from the Delaware County Interactive Gaming Revenue Authority (DCIGRA) to expand its food pantry and basic needs services. The college will serve students at its Marple Campus and at Downingtown and Southeast Centers throughout 2026.  VISTA Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Heavy snow and mixed precipitation are forecast from late Saturday night through Monday afternoon across parts of Pennsylvania, with up to 17 inches of snow expected; travel may be very difficult Monday morning (residents should monitor local updates).  WFMZ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Josh Shapiro declared a disaster emergency Friday, Jan. 23 to prepare the state for heavy snow and cold expected to hit tonight. State agencies—PEMA, the State Police and PennDOT—will mobilize funding and resources to keep travel safe.  FOX 29
  • PECO is advising customers on steps to prepare for heavy snow and freezing rain expected this weekend. The company has increased staffing (and set up outage reporting via phone and its mobile app) to restore power quickly if outages occur.  VISTA Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Thursday, Jan. 22, health inspectors visited several Chester County eateries (in Downingtown and Kennett Square) and flagged issues such as expired milk, mold buildup, and roach sightings. While some problems were fixed during inspections, one restaurant remained closed to complete pest treatment.  MyChesCo
